You can find plenty of information that gives you very emotion-based criteria for selecting the right house. This is not trite, by any means, and how you feel about a house does make a huge difference in whether it’s right for you. Here are some other things to consider, however.

Your realtor will make sure there has been an inspection on the house. Have an idea of how much work you’re going to need to do in the home once you move into make it into exactly the house you want to be.

Your realtor will also get you information on taxes, the market and comparable properties in the area. They’ll go through this with you so you truly understand it. Part of what a good realtor does is to make sure you know what you are buying.

There may be cases when your realtor actually points out elements of the house that seem to detract from its overall attractiveness. This is a sign that you have a very good realtor. A realtor doesn’t try to convince you to buy a particular home. A realtor does their best to make sure you find the home that’s right for you. If they see something that bothers them and they point it out, take it seriously.

Realtors are a bit different from other types of salespeople. If they see you make an immediate emotional connection with a house, they don’t just see dollar signs in the form of a commission check. Oftentimes, they will help you to have the presence of mind to take a step back, make a realistic consideration and, if it still looks good, they’ll help you make your offer.
